You can purchase an all in one product that does fleas, ticks and HW prevention. You can buy a heartworm only product such as Heartgard or Sentinel, or my favorite because it is easy is the yearly heartworm “vaccine” that helps protect your pet against HW for a whole year with just one injection.
• Intestinal Parasite Control: Our deworming protocols help eliminate and prevent common intestinal parasites, such as roundworms and tapeworms which are the most common parasites we see. The best is to do a fecal exam every 6-12 months depending on your pet’s lifestyle and deworm accordingly. If your pet develops diarrhea, always remember to bring in a fresh poop sample because that is the first thing we want to rule out!
• Tick-Borne Disease Prevention: In SCV we do not see much fleas, although with the rains we are seeing more fleas every year. We do see a lot of ticks due to our wildlife and the heavy brush along our paseos or hiking trails. We provide protection against tick-borne diseases, including Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever to name a few by recommending a flea and tick preventative that will help to keep you and your pet healthy and free from acquiring these conditions from ticks.
