Dr. Gina Johnson was born in Naples, Italy, but considers herself a native Oregonian, having lived in Portland for 17 years. She attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. She spent the next two years working as a veterinary assistant in a busy small animal practice. She moved to Southern California to attend veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences, where she explored her interests in preventive medicine, exotics, research, and public health. Dr. Johnson completed rotating externships at exotics practices, the Oregon Humane Society, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota and the neurology department of the Queen’s Royal Veterinary College in Cambridge, England. Currently Dr. Johnson’s goals are to foster excellent relationships with pets and their owners and provide high-quality medical care.
Dr. Johnson’s non-veterinary hobbies are extensive. She enjoys reading and writing science fiction/fantasy, drawing, painting and crochet. She also loves the great outdoors, which she explores through running, hiking, nature photography, bird-watching, and fire-spinning. When it’s too hot for an Oregonian to be outside, she enjoys catching up on old science fiction television shows and hilariously bad movies on Netflix.
Dr. Johnson currently resides in Culver City with her partner, Ben, and her cantankerous senior cat, Charlotte.
